Anchorage to Homer

The ride down to Homer on the Kenai Peninsula is supposed to be very beautiful. You pass through the Chugach National Forest and along the Cook Inlet to halibut capital of the world. No fishes for me, thank you.
Denali Hwy to Anchorage
267miles - 1 day
Follow the Denali Hwy to the Parks Hwy and down to Anchorage with maybe a stop in Talkeetna.
Have scheduled a motorcycle service and tire change at The Motorcycle Shop in Anchorage.
Fairbanks to Denali Highway
260 miles - 1 day
Richardson Hwy to Paxton Lake, then along the Denali Hwy to a nice camp spot on a river bank with a view of the Alaska Range.
Dawson YT to Eagle AK
140 miles - 1 dayThe historic community of Eagle is just across the US-Canadian border on the banks of the Yukon River.

Dawson to Inuvik and back
960 miles - 2 days up and 2 days back
The Dempster Highway, 480 miles of gravel road crossing the Arctic Circle to the native village of Inuvik. Overnight at Eagle Plains.
Telegraph Creek to Dawson City
800 miles - 3 days
Back on to the Cassiar Hwy, joining the Alcan Hwy near Watson Lake, to Whitehorse where I will stop to change tires at Yukon Yamaha.
Then up Hwy 2 to Dawson. I'll be staying in Dawson for a couple of days for the annual rendezvous of adventure touring motorcyclists, the Dust to Dawson .
Hyder AK to Telegraph Creek BC
315 miles - 1 or 2 daysTelegraph Creek is a native settlement on the Stikine River.
"The road to Telegraph Creek is incomparably beautiful, but very rough; about 150 kms of gravel, steep gradients (up to 20 percent), narrow passages along canyon walls (with no guard rails), and sharply angled switchbacks. Not suitable for trailers (leave them in Dease Lake). Check in Dease Lake for current road conditions. "
Oroville, WA to Hyder AK
900 miles - 3 days
After crossing the USA/Canada border at Osoyoos, I'll ride up the 97 to Prince George, take the 16 to Kitawanga, where I'll meet up with the Cassiar Highway. A quick dip into the tip of Alaska to visit the little town of Hyder. Hyder has a lot of bears and Bear Glacier.
Proposed Route - San Diego to Oroville
1500 miles - 4 days
I would like to avoid just slabbing up the 5. I'll take US395 to Alturas and then cut over to US97. One little side trip through the John Day Fossil Beds then back to US97 to Oroville, on the US/Canada border.
Overnights at or near Lee Vining, Crater Lake and somewhere along the Columbia.

San Diego to Deadhorse - 2008
For more than a year now I have planned to tour NW Canada and Alaska on my motorcycle. I've set aside about 6 weeks, beginning the first week of June, to complete my adventure. My plan is to camp the whole trip and visit some out-of-the-way locations. Lots of unpaved roads. After reading about the Great Northwest in books and all the wonderful trip reports on ADVrider , I feel myself drawn to seeing this part of the world.
I will use this blog to document my planning for the trip and to post updates of my progress.
Deadhorse, Alaska (I love some of the names of towns in Alaska... Deadhorse, Chicken, Coldfoot...) is at the end of the most northerly road in the US, the Dalton Highway or the North Slope Haul Road. It sits near the shores of the Arctic Ocean and is the northern terminus of the Alaskan Pipeline. Most of the highway is unpaved and, with all the heavy truck traffic supplying the oilfields, can be treacherous.
It's almost 4,000 miles from San Diego to Deadhorse with a lot beautiful North America in between.
